Before Dark: A Tale of the Temple

Before Dark is finally available through Smashwords and should be listed on Apple, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Diesel, and others within the next two weeks, if all goes well. It’s been a long time coming, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t petrified of finally letting it go out into the world – but for better or worse, here it is.

Before Dark

In the world of the future, vampires are real. Escaped military experiments gone horribly wrong, they spread their parasitic blood and soon the major cities are half-deserted militarised zones controlled by vigilante police departments and electric fences. Or so they would have you believe.
Because in the backstreets of London, another institution is at work. The vampire hunters of the Temple keep the streets clean and destroy these creatures wherever they find them. Led by the enigmatic Margaret Atwater, they recruit their numbers from among the drug addicts, the homeless, the dispossessed. They are a law unto themselves.
And in the London of the future – before the cloud came, before vampires had a reason to fear the dark – there lives a streetkid. Thrown out at the age of sixteen by his mother and her new boyfriend, he is left to survive in the backstreets by selling his skin and a few, less savoury items whenever he can get his hands on them. For three years he plies his trade in the nighttime alleyways and never so much as sees a vampire . . . until one night when he wanders into an abandoned district and catches the eye of a brood looking for easy prey.

Before, his face has always been his fortune. Now, it’s about to be his downfall.
